Twi, also called Akan or Twi-Fante, is an Akan language spoken in Ghana, primarily in the southern half of the country, by about 52% of the population. Ghana is a country located in West Africa, along the Ivory Coast. There are over 79 known languages spoken in Ghana and as with most ex-colonies in Africa, the official language is English. However, there are nine government-sponsored languages, Twi-Fante among them, native to the Ghanaian peoples and all nine native languages belong to the Niger-Congo language family. Baby Name World maintains a list of Bantu, Niger-Congo and African baby names and name meanings for research and browsing.
